My assignment

Today i worked on my assignment which i have chosen to make a costume catch the objects falling down from the sky. I have made my costume move around as you move the arrow keys. I also got the objects to disapear as soon as they touch the costume. Today with the help of mr lennon, i fixed my problem which was the scoring. I made my scores and everything but it was not scoring for some of the objects. So mr lennon went through my scripts and help find what the problem was. I had one script overlaping with another. So i removed a whole chunk of piece and after it worked! yaay... and thats where im upto.

Fourth tutorial!!

Today i did my fourth tutorial! wooo!... I did the 'keep score' tutorial. This tutorial can really help with my assignment as i am making a game where you have to keep score. anyways, in this tutorial, i learnt how to keep score everytime the costume touches the other costume it's meant to. I found this tutorial a bit challenging as it uses a couple of scripts. First of all i put the ' when green flag is clicked', as always, then i went to variables and clicked make a variable. I then entered score so that it could count the score. After a bunch of scripts come up such as 'set score to 0', 'change score by 1', ,show variable' etc. and so i selected set score to 0 then i added it under 'when green flag is clicked. Then i selected forever so that it doesnt stop and added turn so that it turns in a direction. I put move so that it could move how much steps i want. i put an 'if' after and put 'touching' what ever sprite and then i added the variable i made ' change score by 1' so that when what ever costume touches another costume, the score changes. if i wanted to put sounds in it, i would add play sound. then the last thing i added was move __ steps'

Here is an example of what the script looks like.

Third tutorial!!

Today i did my third tutorial and it called 'follow the mouse'. BAsically all it does is that when you press the green flag the costume you have decided to choose follows where ever you point the mouse. Th script is very simple as all i had to put was 'when green flag is clicked', i added 'forever' so that it doesnt stop, then i added the 'point towards' and i selected mouse pointer, so it obviously pionts towards the mouse. Then i added 'move' and selected a number so it moves because if i dont add it, the costume would only point towards the mouse pointer and wont move.

Here is what the script looks like

Second tutorial!!

Today i did my second tutorial, the tutorial i did is called 'moving animation'. In this tutorial it shows you how to make a costume move and turn when it touches the sides or the edges. To make it move you have to insert 'when green flag is clicked', in the script then you add 'switch to costume', then add 'wait' to make it wait how long ever you want it to wait and then you add 'move' how much ever you want to make it move or walk. You then add another 'switch to costume' ynder the wait and click how much you want it to move. add another 'wait', 'move under it and finaly add if on edge,b ounc. THis makes the costume move around and everytime it touches the sides and corners, it turns around and walk back towards the other end.

This is what the script looks like.

First tutorial!!!

Today im going to do my first scratch tutorial!! Im starting to the the "animate it". while doing this tutorial, i learnt how to edit a costume just by importing your chosed picture then clicking the edit button next to the copy. To animate the character, you have to the scripts and go to the controls to drag and add 'when clicked the green flag' to it, then drag forever loop to make it stay on the last picture you want it to look like. then you go to looks and drag 'switch to costume and attach it under forever. After you comand the switch costume to the costume you want, go back to control and add wait and enter how many seconds you want it to wait until the costume changes into a different one. To make the character change to the one you want, right click on the switch costume and select duplicate so that you dont have to go back to where you got it from.. after youve duplicated it drag the copy under the 'wait' and after youve dragged it also duplicate the 'wait' and add it under the second 'switch to costume'. If this is done correctly, when you press the green flag it should change from one costume to another. Remember to change the 'switch to costume' to two different costumes so that it changes.
As you can see this is what it turned out to look like...

I finally finished my first tutorial!!! =D yaayy i hope this is enough information...

Scrapblog!!

Me and my partner Renee chose the four topics we wanted to do for our slideshow.... Renee chose to do Digital radio, Social networking, Blu-ray and Wi-Fi.. and i chose to do Handheld multimedia devices, piracy and copyright, secondary storage, and bluetooth.... Each of the topics had to have atleast 5-7 slides... For a full slideshow each of us must atleast have 30 slides.... Since we both had our problems... mr lennon let us redo it said that we could do two topics so we should atleast have 10-15 slides....

Anywiis other than that ive learnt alot about the topic im doin and found lots of information.... i learnt that handheld mutimedia devices are getting very expensive but the quality are getting better and better.... i also learned the difference between piracy and copyright and also found out what it actually means... And the obvious is that i learned how to use different softwares and that different softwares dont have as much in common as i thought.....

Assignment!

dear diary, im now workin on a new one.... My partner for this assessment is renee and we were planning to work on it by ourselves and put it together afterwards but we both had our own problems so now we're both starting again.... The task was to creat a slideshow with information about the topics listed in thask instruction... we could use softwares such as scrapblog, notaland, page flakes, protopage, soho etc..... Me and Renee tried out different types of the softwares to see which we liked better to use to do our slideshow.... I tried notaland and found it a bit difficult and confusing so next i tried scrapblog. I liked scrapblog as it was easy to use, so i chose it to be the software i would use. Scrapblog lets you browse for photos, stickers, backrounds and etc. You could find ur way to where u want easily and it lets you put pictures and information on the page. You could also link it to other sites by going to the text ballon, pick, drag it onto the page, write what ever you want then on the right hand side there's a tool bar where you can find "Link" in the middle and then when you find it, u can click on it and choose where you would want to link it. You could link it to the next page or to a website from the internet. It also lets you add video's from the internet just by adding one like adding a photo.. it just that easy!.... Other than some technical difficulties, scrapblog is a great software to use and i would consider using it other than school related work..

sypnosis!! =D

My goal and my groups goal was to entertain and make people laugh with our little video... It didn't matter what age they were, because our target audience was all age groups.. As long as it made them laugh or just at least found it interesting and entertaining we were happy.. It took us a while to figure out what our aim was but we eventually thought of a good one using our team work and made a video about "How to be a nerd"...
Everyone in the group was very attentive and cooperative during the little sessions we had to make this movie successful... Everyone also made it successful by not complaining and that we just got along with every decision because we all agreed on what we should do to make it funny and entertaining...
In the end our video turned out good and everyone in the group was happy with it... =D

story board!! =D

how to be a nerd post 7 =D

Dear diary,
today was the last lesson we are filming and it was lesson 7 which was watch out for the bully... angela was away again so we got debbie to film us again.... we decided that nancy was the nerd and i was the bully...
After this we converted our video from the video camera to the computer and we put it in movie maker.... We put music and techniques in our movie so that it could be much more entertaining...
Even though we had a few arguments, problems and stress, we overcame everything and got a nice result to our movie... We all had fun in making this movie and this was a good experience in filming and also getting to work in teams.... This was also the most enjoyable practical assessment we had for IST....

how to be a nerd post 6 =D

Dear diary,
todayangela was away again so we couldnt do much again... so we just took a risk and asked one of the other people from another group who was free and asked them if they could film for us... the person that helped us was debbie... now that was sorted out we started doing the next lesson which was revenge your bully... in this lesson we got debbie to film us, nancy was the nerd and i was the bully... this lesson was the longest film we did out of the whole thing... we did like more than 20 shots just to get 1 that is a good result... this step took the whole lesson to film so we had to wait for the next lesson until we could finish our movie off...

how to be a nerd post 5 =D

Dear diary,
today was a normal day and we strted filming so that we could get our movie over and done with.... today we were filming lesson 4 which was obey all rules... we started filming at lunch time so we got the teacher on duty to be in our little movie... we decided that i was the nerd, angela was the bully and nancy was filming... we also did lesson 5 wich was never give your lunch money away to the bully... we decided that nancy was the bully and i was the nerd... we finished these lessons and waited for the next lesson so that we could film our next step...

how to be a nerd post 4 =D

Dear diary,
angela was away today, leaving me and nancy to do the filming... as she was away we couldnt do much because we could'nt get anyone to film us.... We hoped that next lesson angela was present... and she was so we straightly got on with our film starting off from where we left from... Now we were filming lesson 3 which was "have a secret handshake" we decided that me and nancy should be the two nerds and angela was filming.. This was one of the lessons that took us a very long time to finish because we hadto keep re doing it over and over again....

how to be a nerd post 3 =D

Dear diary,
today was the first day we started filming our movie...
We alocated our roles for each of the steps and decided that for the first step, Nancy was the person video taping us, angela was the nerd and i was the bully pushing her down the stairs..
after a few shots of this we started on the second step and decided that i should chase the bird and nancy was filming... while angela got the bird to stay where we wanted it to be... this step was difficult because we couldnt find any birds that was free and on the ground...

how to be a nerd post 2 =D

Dear diary,
today we were discussing on what our group name should be and what video we were going to do.. We decided that our name should be CNA.. we thought of this because we just used the first letter of the first name of everyone in the group.... C= christle, N= nancy and A= angela... The group was fine with this name so we went with it... after we registered this on the site we also had to say what our video was about... after watching a few funny videos we decided to do a spoof.... So we all agreed that our video should be called "How to be a nerd" and in this video we made 7 steps... then we started designing our story boards... everyone had their own..

How to be a nerd post 1 =D

Dear diary,
today was the day we got our assignment... This assignment was based on a video that had to last for at least 3-4 minutes... This video could be on anything that we wanted... but before we got started we had to be in a group of no more than 3 people... i had a few problems in picking my group because there was 5 of us friends... so we came to a decision and i ended up being in a group with
NANCY SASSINE and ANGELA SASSINE...
before we started anything we had to register a group name and what type of video we were going to do on the school website...ist groups 2009....
As we discussed on what we were going to make the video about, the bell rang so we waited till next lesson and discussed more on what we were going to do and what our name was going to be...

RSS FEED

Q.1
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed.
Q2.
add text, audio, images, logos and video is what goes into feeds. it contains a list of items where each one is identified by a link. most feeds inclue a title for the link and a description of a content.
Q3.
RSS keeps the audience updated. It allow people to see the content without having to go to the website. it saves time and frustration.
Q4.
An RSS subscriber is worth about 15 to 20 email subsribers and it also shows that when i added 1 RSS subscriber there were 2 more email subscribers
Q5.
RSS is similar to a radio. as the radio needs a radio set to pick up programs the RSS just sends out a newsreader to all the subscribers. An email is sent by one person to another person.
Q6.
A feed brings your website content to their attention. Registering your feeds with the search engines, and adding good content on a regular basis, will increase your search engine visibility.

Diary entry5!!

diary entry 5
dear diary,
omgoshh this is the last diary entry i have to do!!! My animation ended up having 70 something frames and is way more than what i was aiming for. Some of the difficulties i encountered was that i kept changing my mind on what software to use and what i was gonna do for my animation. I encountered this by leaving it to inkscape and sticking to the idea i had. I also learnt how to use inkscape and gimp wich was very interesting and i learned how to use some of the tools provided in it. i also learned about different softwares and different kinds image file size and types. I never even knew what some of the words meant at the start like "png" but after doing this i have learned alot of meaning of technological words. Making the animation was hard but it was fun to do.

I hope you enjoy my animation and like it.. thank you...
unfortunately this is my last diary entry...so cya!!

diary entry 4!!

Diary entry 4
Dear diary,
Today i started finishing off my elmo and i had made elmo say "go veritas"and at the end i just put the crest and made it pop out and disappear then pop out again. I saved everything and put it in gimp so that it could make an animation. Once i've finished i could put it in my blogger.

diary entry 3!!

Diary entry 3
dear diary,
Today i did some of my assessment at home. Today i've put a mascot for my house and i did elmo. i looked for pictures that i think that would look good with what i'm about to do.

This is my elmo picture i've picked

Using inkscape i traced around his eyes first then his nose then the outside red bit then his mouth. I had to trace it because it it would not let me change anything when it's the original one so i had to make a copy. i used the fill to fill the eyes all black to make elmo look like he was blinking. i mad a few frames with elmo closing and opening his eyes. I was trying to aim for 50-55 frames for my animation.

Diary entry 2!!!

Diary entry 2

Dear diary,
Today is our 3rd lesson of our animations and I've started making my animation. 1st i got the cres tand took out the word "veritas"and "With truth comes justice". Second i started moving "Veritas"along the top of the crest to make it move, then i did the same to the "With truth comes justice". I exported everything i did to my (s:) drive and saved it as a png file.

Diary entry 1!!!

Diary entry 1

Dear diary,
today is our first lesson that we got our assessment. We were allowed to start after mr lennon showed us a few things on his his computer screan. We chose wich painting software we were gonna use to make our animations. I chose The software inkscape because it was more easier to use. I actually chose Gimp first but it was too complicated so i changed it to inkscape. I also chose this software because it gave me a wide range of tools to choose from. I went to the IST home page and clicked animation resources. I clicked on my house wich included our crest. I couldn't just open it because it would just give me the code so i had to right click and click on "save target as". The image would save so I wouldnt have to go back to it and keep opening it. When i've saved it it would open up in inkscape. I thought of an idea before i started doing anything.

Buying a graphics tablet

Explain what a graphics tablet is and how you would use one.

A graphics tablet is a computer input device that allows you to hand draw images and graphics. they can also be used to write, draw or put a signature. It has a flat page which you can draw or write an image or words using an attached stylus which is like a pen like drawing apparatus. The image normally doesn't appear on the tablet itself but it is displayed on the computer monitor. it creates computer graphics, especially two-dimensional computer graphics. Some examples of graphic tablets are GIMP, Corel painting, inkscape, photoshop, pixel image editor, studio artist, the crosfield imaging system, Quantel paintbox, and others.

How to use a graphics tablet

Step1: Research different graphics tablets. While most graphics tablets are similar, some perform better than others for certain tasks. There are different sizes of graphics tablets. A novice or occasional user might not want a larger graphics tablet, while an experienced programmer or graphic artist might prefer a larger tablet.

Step2: Know the interface, the way your graphics tablet connects to the computer. Many modern graphics tablets use USB connectivity. There are a few that have wireles capability that gives you more flexibility.

Step3: Set up your graphics tablet with the software that came with it. This software lets you use the tablet, and adjust the settings.

Step4: Draw your designs with a stylus or other tool, such as a graphics mouse. The stylus is a pen-like tool for drawing, similar to a pen or pencil. A graphics mouse is like to a regular compute mouse, but has adjustable settings for a graphics tablet, as well as the regular functions of a computer mouse.

Step5: Adjust the settings on your graphics tablet. Some adjustments may need to be made according to the type of graphics job you are doing. Refer to the user manual for specifics to the graphics tablet purchased.

Step6: Use the graphics tablet for computer graphics, game design, website graphics design, calligraphy on the computer, picture languages such as Chinese and Japanese writing, CAD and technical drawings and digital photography work. Anything a mouse and mouse pad can do, a graphics tablet can do.

3. Explain in terms we can understand what is meant by:

Pressure levels

Pressure levels are the sencitivity of the tablet wether it's high or low or standard. A standard pressure sensitivities is 256, 512 and 1024, and the higher the number is it will feel more natural, responsive and you will have more control of it . Most tablets has a 256, 512, or 1024 pressure levels. The pressure level can control the line thickness, transparency, and/or color.

Resolution

A resolution is the sharpness of a computer generated image is measured by the number of dots per linear inch in a hard-copy printout or it can be the number of pixels across and down on a display screen. Resolutions greater than 300 dots per linear inch is unecessary for everyday use and the finer the resolution is the more control you will apply on the image.

Buying a camera

1. Explain what you want the camera for, printing high quality images ?
The camera that I would buy is for taking family pictures, important events and pictures to put in the internet. It would also have to have alot of memory that can be stored and enough to last for a while. I would also like it to have a clear image when i take a picture even when it's far away and that when i zoom in you can still see it's important details.

2.What resolution should I look for?
I should look for a camera with a high resolution setting because if i want to print an image for example 900x900 pixels the picture would come out clearer and so that it doesnt lack detail.

3.What type of memory is available?
There are many types of memory cards and some of them are:
SD memory card
SD memory card is an ultra small flash memory card is designed to store high capacity in a small sized stick. They are normally used for small portable devices such as digital cameras, handheld computers, audio players and mobile phones. SD Memory Cards are now available for up to 2GB. An SD card normally measures 24mm x 32mm x 2.1mm and weighs approximately 2grams.
MMC

MMC is designed to store data and to enable the transfer of data between devices equipped with MultiMediaCard (MMC) slots. MMC is used as a storage media for a portable device. For example, a digital camera would use an it for storing image files. it has a capacity size of 128MB, 256MB and 512MB.
MICRO SD
It is the smallest memory card available, at the size of 15 mm × 11 mm × 1 mm (about the size of a fingernail) an it is about a quarter the size of an SD card. They are now available in a capacity of 1GB and weighs about 0.04 lbs or 1.41g.

4.Find two cameras that would suit your needs, copy their details into this document and explain why they would suit you.

5.Explain how a card reader would be useful for you to have with the camera.
A card reader can be connected or built in. It can be useful for a camera because it alows images/ photos to be transpered from devices such as a digital camera, video recorders and mp3 players. Using a card reader can also reduce wear and tear on the hinges and the terminals within the cameras memory card compartment and instead of using camera cables u can use a card reader and it would not drain the batteries in the camera.

Draw Vs Paint!!

paint!
Advantages:
  • can use either only outline or fill
  • makes a perfectly shaped circle

Disadvantages:

  • Once copied and pasted you can't change the colour.
  • When placed on top of something and placed can't move to a different place without wrecking the background
  • Can't have same shape unless you want the same colour

Problems i encountered

some of the problems i had for paint was that when i made 1 circle and copied and pasted it, i couldnt change the colour. i encountered this pronlem by drawing 5 seperate circles. another problem i had was that when i kept leaving one of the circles on top of another and click on a different one it would stay and i couldn't move it without wrecking the picture behind it. I encountered this problem by not putting it on top unless im sure and everytime i did put it on top i just used the undo and fixed it.

Word!

Advantages
  • You can move the picture on top of another picture and leave it and if you Don't want it there you can move it quickly just by clicking on it
  • It's easy to change the colour

Disadvantages

  • It doesn't go see through
  • It doesn't move the picture right were you want it

Problems i encountered

some problems i had for word was that i tried to make it see through and it wouldn't work because it would only go infront or behind the picture but not through it. so i tried to draw on top of the other to make it look like a circle but it wouldn't work. i encountered this problem by putting the 2 bottom circle on top of the other 3 and just made it not see through. the next day to school i asked my teacher how to make it see through and he showed me how to and now it looks exactly like how i want it.

Drawing activity 8 of clubs

Monochrome bitmap: 7.56 KB
24-bit bitmap: 180 KB
Why do you think there is a difference in the file size?
because the monochrome only had 2 colours, clack and white while the 24-bit bitmap has more. So the 24-bit bitmap has a bigger size than the monochrome one.

1. List how many forms of digital media surround us (you should be able to come up with at least 5

  • Cell phones
  • digital video
  • digital television
  • internet
  • video game

2. What number system is digital data based on? What two digits are used to code all digital data?

Binary describes a numbering scheme in which there are only two possible values for each digit: 0 and 1. In digital data memory, storage, processing, and communications, the 0 and 1 values are sometimes called "low" and "high," respectively.

3. What is a bit? What is a byte?

A bit is a binary digit, taking a value of either 0 or 1. Binary digits are a basic unit of information storage and communication in digital.

A byte is a unit of storage capable of holding characters. in most computers a byte is equal to 8 bits. large amount of memory are known in terms of kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes.

4. What is “sampling rate”? Find an image that explains how sampling works

Digital audio signal is its sampling rate, usually just called the sample rate. The reason why this is important is because the imagine that you had for example a recording of someone speaking, and you sampled the recording once per second. You'd end up with a lot of uneven noise. The more frequently the signal is sampled, the better the approximation to the original sound. However, the higher the sample rate the more memory is required to store the samples

5. How does Colour Depth (Color Depth) or bit depth effect the appearance of an image? Find some images to illustrate the effect.

Colour depth or Bit depth is a computer graphics term describing the number of bits used in a picture/ video. The higher the the colour depth is the clearer of the clours of the picture will be.

Low colour depth

high colour depth

6. Colour depth effects both still and video digital media. Sampling rate only effects video but not still media. Can you explain.

For the image/ video, colour depth has the same effect to it. It doesn't matter wether or not the image is moving because they are both the same. However, Sampling rate only effects video because for the videos there are sounds and movements but the still frames doesn't.
